Kenneth Clarkson
Founder & IB Mathematics Tutor
I taught IB maths at Kristin School — one of New Zealand's leading IB schools — and my students regularly go on to earn 7s, the top grade. So I know the Diploma from the inside. Today I work online with IB students across Auckland, from Kristin and Rangitoto College to Diocesan School for Girls, and with families throughout the rest of New Zealand.
Which IB maths course is your child taking?
There are two IB maths subjects, each at two levels. I tutor all four — every lesson is built around the specific course and its exams.
Analysis & Approaches
The most demanding IB maths course — calculus-heavy, with a real emphasis on algebra and formal proof.
Best for: Engineering, physics, maths, economics at a top university
Analysis & Approaches
A rigorous, largely non-calculator course built around algebra, functions and an introduction to calculus.
Best for: University study that needs solid, rigorous maths
Applications & Interpretation
Applied and technology-active, with a strong statistics and modelling focus throughout.
Best for: Data science, business, social sciences, design
Applications & Interpretation
Practical, real-world maths with statistics and modelling at its heart, taught with technology.
Best for: A confident, real-world applied pathway through the Diploma
The IA and HL Paper 3 — not just the exams
These are the parts of IB maths that trip up even strong students. They're also where focused help makes the biggest difference.
A strong foundation for the Exploration (IA)
The Internal Assessment is worth 20% of the final grade, and a strong Exploration rests on genuine mathematical understanding. That's exactly what our lessons build — so your child comes to their own investigation already confident with the mathematics behind it.
HL Paper 3
The extended problem-solving paper, unique to Higher Level, rewards mathematical thinking rather than memorised methods — long, unfamiliar, multi-part investigations. We practise exactly this style, so nothing on the day feels new.
Exam technique across every paper
Paper 1 (no calculator for AA), Paper 2 (calculator / GDC), and the HL papers — we work on setting out full method marks, using the graphics calculator well, and managing time under pressure.
How it works
Simple, low-pressure, and built around your child.
Check you're set up
Lessons need a laptop, a tablet and stylus, and a reliable internet connection — so your child can handwrite maths naturally, right alongside me.
Get in touch
Tell me about your child through the Get Started form. Your first lesson is risk-free — if it's not the right fit, there's no charge.
A plan, then weekly lessons
I find their current level and set a plan, then we meet weekly online on an interactive whiteboard — with homework each lesson to lock it in.
Ongoing progress
Lessons run weekly through the term. You stay in the loop on how they're tracking, and we adapt as their confidence grows.

Specialist IB maths help, built around your child
A specialist, not a generalist
A fully qualified teacher who knows the IB Diploma maths syllabus inside out — both subjects, both levels.
Genuinely small groups
Group classes are capped at four and matched by course and level, so nobody is held back or left behind.
Every whiteboard saved
Each lesson is saved to a growing set of personalised revision notes your child can return to before exams.
Risk-free first lesson
If the first lesson isn't the right fit, it's on me — no charge, no pressure.
Online across New Zealand
Live lessons from home on an interactive whiteboard — the same teaching and connection, without the travel.
One tutor, whole Diploma
Continuity from the first year of the Diploma right through to the final papers — no starting over.

Taught by an IB specialist
I teach every IB lesson myself. Here's my full background, and what students and families have said.
Kenneth Clarkson
My goal isn't just to get your child through the next test — it's to build strong foundations that set them up for the long term. I teach for understanding over memorising, keep lessons calm and encouraging, and tailor each student's path toward wherever they're heading, whether that's NCEA, Cambridge, IB, or beyond.
What families say
“We really appreciate the positive impact Kenneth has had on our son. Michael often tells us how much he enjoys Kenneth's lessons, and they've made a real difference to his confidence and understanding in maths. Thank you, Kenneth, for being such a wonderful teacher.”
